Snow and Ice Removal
Walkways, Driveways, and Roadways: The snow removal crews will be onsite once there is an accumulation of snow over 2 inches. Roadways, especially the hills, will be salted (calcium chloride) during each snowfall, even those under two inches. Due to the cost involved of applying the calcium chloride on a daily basis to driveways and walkways, we are suggesting that all homeowners purchase a bag of either CALCIUM CHLORIDE or POTASSIUM CHLORIDE ONLY for use on the immediate exterior of their home. With snow and ice melting and freezing on the walkways daily, it is economically not possible for the Homeowners Association to have the crews apply calcium chloride daily.
Decks: All residents should clean accumulated snow off their rear decks to ensure no damage is caused by the snow.
Hot Water Heaters
As you should be aware, Berkshire Ridge was built in the late 1980's, which means some of the older units are more than 20 years old. Many units still have the original hot water heater installed. Most likely, these are beyond their warranty period and near the end of their useful life. The Berkshire Ridge Board of Directors and CASI are recommending that homeowners with original hot water heaters still installed take preventative action and plan to replace them as soon as possible. By taking action now, you can prevent a situation where the hot water heater goes bad, possibly causing damage to not only your unit, but your neighbors as well.

Dryer Vents
Prevent Fires in your Clothes Dryer
Clean the lint screen or filter before or after drying each load of clothes. Get in the habit of changing the lint screen or filter each time you dry a load of clothes. If clothing is still damp at the end of the normal drying cycle, or drying is taking longer than normal, your lint screen or the exhaust duct may be blocked.
Clean behind and around the dryer.

of the material igniting.
Clean the interior of the dryer chassis periodically.

Take special care when drying clothes with volatile chemicals or oils.
Take special care when drying clothes that have been soiled with volatile chemicals such as gasoline, cooking oils, cleaning agents, or finishing oils and stains. If possible, wash the clothing more than once to minimize the amount of volatile chemicals on the clothes and, preferably, hang the clothes to dry. If using a dryer, use the lowest heat setting and a drying cycle that has a cool-down period at the end of the cycle. To prevent clothes from igniting after drying, do not leave the dried clothes in the dryer or piled in a laundry basket.
Smoke Detectors
If your smoke detector is making a constant alarm noise, and you have confirmed there is no fire, the alarm sounding could be warning you that something has gone wrong with the detector itself. At this point, you should replace the smoke detector immediately with a new unit.
